Production Planning and Supply Chains are always getting more complex. More diverse product ranges, more integrations with other supply chains, faster and more frequent product introductions, more focus on innovations – and that is just to name a few. And at the end of this a more demanding customer, requesting the highest quality and precision in executing the production plan.

Due to this you need to communicate this complexity as effectively as possible to your organisation, and most likely also to suppliers and third parties that have been integrated into the supply chain.

Communicating your complex Production Plan

In the past complexity was dealt with by, well, Excel lists. Lots of Excel lists. Lists of customer orders, production orders and the comforting knowledge that ‘the planner knows’. This leaves the organisation unaware of the status of the process, looking at a black box, where hopefully the right product comes out at the right time!

Another option is ERP-systems, where you can find all the information you need. That is, if you know how to do it, and have an account (for which you will probably be billed annually). Most of the time this approach is not particularly user-friendly and certainly is not capable of communicating complexity very well.

This results in outdated methods of planning and communication, with complex spreadsheets that only their builder knows how to manage. Besides being very prone to error, this approach also makes that particular employee critical for your primary process. When he or she leaves, you need to reinvent the wheel. Extremely undesirable, and yet a reality in many companies. Regardless of the effort, the complexity is still almost impossible to communicate effectively.

Complexity and OccaSee Production Planning Visibility

More than a 100 years ago Henry Gantt developed the Gantt chart.  It is a graphical representation of a planning, which enables you to communicate very complex processes in a clear and effective way. Your resources on the y-axis, time on the x-axis, and coloured blocks representing production orders.

OccaSee Gantt chart

OccaSee Production Planning Visibility generates this Gantt chart right in your web browser, making the most complex production process intelligible and easy to work with. To increase the information availability OccaSee allows you to click on the production batch, so you directly access  detailed information of the production batch and product(s) concerned. This includes:

  • bill of material
  • the materials used
  • images of the product or material
  • production order progress
  • projected and actual  inventory displayed in a graph

…and more. From high complexity to detailed information in one click. Intuitive and easy to use, making your complex process known through your whole organisation.
